Caitlin Fenton is a Registered Nurse with seven years of experience in womens’ health. Fenton enrolled in a masters’ of nursing program in nursing with a thesis focus on a unique simulation modality to teach nursing management of a postpartum hemorrhage. Fenton sees the value of well-applied technology and policy in teaching and supporting nurses to provide best practice care. She sees a future role for healthcare leaders that involves tailoring computer algorithms and interfacing technology for healthcare emergency management and complex situations. With more complex cases and larger patient loads, we need to focus on more effective methods of managing emergencies and patient care. Nursing has developed a broad knowledge and professional basis and I intend to contribute to research that supports best practice incorporation and teaching, and quantitative studies that can compare and identify better practice.
Fenton was President of the Canadian Nursing Students’ Association. I had the honour of representing 30 000 nursing students across Canada at the Canadian Nurses Association on topics such as LGTBQIA2+ education, social justice, and accessibility for French nursing students. This experience set a fire under my drive for leadership, and I want to use my successes and failures as a stepping point to influence the landscape of near future nursing practice.
