<dc:description>The primary objective of this project was to design a facility entrance using cold-formed steel to
resist both vertical and lateral loads. The structural system was engineered to withstand gravity
loads (including snow accumulation and dead loads) as well as lateral wind pressures. Key
design components included: load-bearing wall framing systems, direct load-bearing jambs, and
headers and sills for all window and door openings. As an academic exercise, this project served
as an introduction to fundamental structural engineering procedures, specifically focusing on
cold-formed steel framing design methodologies. All necessary architectural drawings, technical
details, and engineering resources were provided by my project sponsor, Matthew Elgersma,
P.Eng., Structural Engineer and Partner at Quantum Engineering Ltd. The completed design
incorporated industry-standard practices while following Canadian building code requirements
for light-gauge steel structures (CSA S136-16)</dc:description>
