Abstract
The purpose of this project was to design a bridge structure to support a 100mm HDPE pipeline
transporting antiscalant across a 26-meter-wide ravine in Sparwood, BC. The ravine is located at
the Line Creek mining site, which operates an Active Water Treatment Facility that requires the
fluid for its processes. Because the bridge is located in a mountainous environment with sub-zero
temperatures, specific design considerations were required for thermal protection and
environmental loading. Evan Tsuji, P.Eng., a Civil Engineer at Stantec, sponsored this project
and provided guidance where required.
