Open Education refers to the practice of creating, publishing, and sharing scholarly materials that are freely available to the public. This means that they have been published with a creative commons license or other permissions that mean the author retains copyright but allows for free use. Open Educational Resources (OER) are not limited to textbooks and articles: they may be syllabi, videos, course materials, software, presentations, or other resources. The intention of open education is to provide greater access to scholarly work, to support intellectual development, raise the profile of scholars and schools, and promote learning.
Abstract
